Local Fishing Communities
AquaTerra Farms supports local, small catch fisherman from the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. The Red Cliff Band, First Americans, have a long heritage using large Birch bark canoes and gill nets constructed from twisted and knotted Willow bark that dates back to pre-European presences in North America. The Red Cliff's still want to keep their heritage alive by continually using gill nets for fishing. The life of the tribal fisherman is still rugged and challenging. For many fishermen, it is a life that has been passed down from generation to generation, requiring intimate knowledge of the big water, Gitchi Gummi (Lake Superior), and its fishery.
Kenosha Harbor Market
As AquaTerra Farms, we believe in locally sourcing our products. This is why we participate at the Kenosha Harbor Market in Kenosha, WI. We love hearing the feedback and support from our neighbors and community every other week. With thousands of visitors every Saturday from 9-2 (9-1 in the winter months), some days we sell out within hours! The fish are harvested the day before and fileted for the consumers’ convenience. You will not be able to get fresher nor tastier fish anywhere else. So, stop by the Kenosha Harbor during summer months and the Kenosha Theatre during winter months to buy some fresh Arctic Char. We are there every other Saturday. Check out our Facebook page for updates.
Eat Wisconsin Fish
We work with and support Eat Wisconsin Fish, which was started by University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute. The Eat Wisconsin Fish program brings awareness to consumers about how important it is to eat locally and to support your local economy. In 2011, more than 90% of seafood eaten by Americans was imported from other countries and around 85% of seafood caught/grown in the U.S. was exported to different countries. Check our www.EatWisconsinFish.org to find out more information.
Evanston Farmers Market
We have expanded our farmers markets into Illinois! In 2015, we joined the Evanston Farmers Market located in downtown Evanston. The market goes from May to November 7am-2pm. We are so thrilled at how well we have been received. We enjoy interacting with our customers and being able to provide them weekly with fresh Arctic Char. Check out our Facebook page for updates or join our Newsletter, located on our Home Page.
We have teamed up with the Kenosha Harbor Market and have created the Westosha Market, located on our farm! During July-September, stop by AquaTerra Farms every Wednesday afternoon for a brand new, mid-week farmers market. We are located at 21010 75th St., Bristol, WI.
