Aqua Terra Farms, Bristol, WI
AquaTerra Farms operates a state-of-the-art AquaPonics facility dedicated to producing environmentally sustainable, premium seafood and produce for the Midwest market. With a focus on quality and consistency, AquaTerra Farms brings reliability to the market.
AquaTerra Farms strives to make our environmental carbon footprint as small as possible. We will utilize alternative sources of energy such as wind, solar and hydro, to reduce our dependence on traditional power.
AquaPonics is the marriage of aquaculture and hydroponics; creating a symbiotic environment between fish and plants. AquaPonics is a sustainable food production system that is bio-secure. The fish are raised in a controlled environment in aquaponds, filled with pristine artesian water that is free from heavy metals such as mercury. The need of antibiotics, fungicides, and perticides has been eleminated.
AquaTerra Farms chose a RAS (recirculating aquaculture system) technology connected to a RAFT (revised agriculture float technology) hydroponics greenhouse to raise our fish and grow our produce. This system allows us to capture all fish waste and reroute the nutrient enriched water to the greenhouses to feed the produce. The water is recycled back to the fish, through state-of-the-art filtration system. The fish waste is currently composted for organic fertilizer and we are exploring future opportunities in the waste to energy technologies.
The small amount of water left over in this recirculation system is disbursed into a man-made wetland, where Wisconsin wild rice is cultivated.
